I manage the water quality protocol for the Pacific Island Network. We sample quarterly in anchialine pools of west Hawaii, streams of Maui, Moloka’i, American Samoa, and Guam, and in a few other locations including a wetland in Saipan. This effort requires coordinating the activity of five technicians, maintaining a large collection of specialized equipment, delegating data entry tasks, evaluating and improving scientific rigor and quality control, maintaining a large contract with a local lab, extracting data from our databases, and exploring, analyzing, and reporting data. I’m also responsible for safety, including annual readiness reviews, JHAs, GARs, and safety SOPs.
